Secrets of a Schoolyard Millionaire
by Nat Amoore
When Tess and her best friend Toby find a million dollars in Tess' backyard they both have big plans about what to do with it. Turns out spending a lot of money when you're a kid can be tricky and it can also get you into a whole lot of trouble.
This book is super fun and very clever. I love the story, the characters, but most of all I love Tess' tips on life that are scattered throughout — they are absolutely spot on and kids (and adults) will totally relate to them.
I also love the fact that this is a funny, middle-grade book with a female protagonist, written by a female author (who is VERY funny in real life) and that it's set in suburban Australia.
Kids will love this book. It's a sure fire winner as I'm sure will be the case with Nat's next book, The Positive Power of Pranking, which has come out with a bang in June 2020.
- Contemporary, Australian in the style of David Walliams
